Hardy – Short History
1872 – The Legend Begins as they set-up a shop as ‘Gunsmiths’ based in Alnwick, Northumberland, the Hardy brothers advertised themselves as ‘gunsmiths, whitesmiths and cutlers’ - 1874 - An advert appeared in the Alnwick Mercury, announcing that the firm was selling ‘River and Sea Fishing Tackle’ hence broadening the scope of their business – Hardy’s quickly found themselves with a reputation for superior quality tackle, in 1891, after three years of patient development, they launched a reel which became their most famous product, the Perfect. It was an instant success and the firm has built it, with occasional interruptions, right up to the present day, a feat that no other tackle manufacturer can even begin to challenge. Other reels made by Hardy include the Fortuna (1921-1966) + Cascapedia (1932) + Alma (1925) + Zane Grey (1928) + Jock Scott (1938) but there were many others, such as the St. George + Uniqua. Hence, you are in very good company in purchasing a quality fishing reel or rod that we make you the envy of your fellow fishermen
