DESCRIPTION
The first volume is December 1847-October 1848 and January 1849-October 1849.
With three black and white plates, ten hand-coloured plates, four coloured cross-stitch plates, eleven yellow embroidery pattern plates dated November 1847 - October 1848 and two plates of sheet music to the 1847-8 volume. With nine yellow embroidery plates, two tapestry pattern plates, three cross stitch plates, one black and white folding plate, two music plates and eight coloured plates to the second volume (Jan-October 1849).
The hand-coloured plates across both volumes are typically scenes of women and their fashion.
Mai 1848 embroidery pattern plate, also has a pattern for negligee to the rear.
Janvier 1849 embroidery plate has a sewing pattern to the rear. May has a sewing pattern for an outer garment to the rear.
This beautifully illustrated periodical began in November 1847, and was edited by one Z Bourey. In addition to the many sewing patterns and plates representing fashion, there are articles discussing the February Revolution, the revival of clubs and the voice of women, female writers under the republic (written by Leonie Verrieres.) and much more.
CONDITION
A quarter morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Patches of rubbing to the joints and extremities. Further patches of rubbing to the spine and paper covered boards. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. April 1848 yellow sewing plate to 1847-8 volume has had a small amount cut out. Small closed tear to the hand-coloured plate at page 133 of the first volume. Small chips to the edges of some of the yellow embroidery pattern plates. The September embroidery plate to the second volume is detached but present. Closed tear to the first music plate to the second volume. One emboidery plate has been completely removed to September and October of vol II. Occasional scattered spots to pages, with heavy spotting to pages 333-352 to the 1849 volume.
