DESCRIPTION
Crowned twice by the French Academy in 1885 and 1886 with the Grand Prix Gobert award.
The July Monarchy (1830-1848) was a period of liberal monarchy rule of France under Louis-Philippe and was the result of the overthrow of the French Bourbon Monarchy in the July Revolution, which defeated Charles X of the House of Bourbon. Proclaiming himself the "King of the French" (roi des Français) instead of "King of France" (roi de France), thus underscoring the supremacy of popular sovereignty, Louis-Philippe established a moderate, constitutional monarchy.
Paul Thureau-Dangin (1837 -1913), member of the French Academy, was a historian of the reign of Louis-Philippe and also of the revival of Catholic thought (in the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of England) in nineteenth century Britain.
