The unit is powered by a 9-volt battery, available almost anywhere, and a a result has higher output, more headroom, and better sound quality than competing models which use expensive, hard-to-find 3-volt lithium batteries. This pickup system makes the Hula Ukes acoustic/electric ukuleles the very best in their price ranges, comparing quite favorably with much more expensive models. It combines the reliability you need with great sound and clean headroom.

This involves a professional setup, stringing, intonation and fretwork job, for which you'd normally pay another hundred bucks. That's a big part of why the Hula Ukes are so popular, we suspect; most lower-priced imported ukes come to you right off the assembly line and are never properly set up by a luthier.
