[ORIGINAL POLITICAL CARTOON DRAWINGS, DANIEL BISHOP, 1940'S, ORIGINAL ART]

On offer here is a fine ORIGINAL POLITICAL CARTOON DRAWING BY NATIONALLY SYNDICATED ARTIST DANIEL BISHOP. Daniel Bishop was a nationally syndicated political cartoonist for the St. Louis Star Times for more than two decades starting about 1929. His work was featured in newspapers from the New York Times to the Birmingham Post and as far west as The Denver Post and Kansas City Times.

This original drawing measures 12 inches x 12 inches in a mat about 2 inches larger. The drawing executed with pen & ink + crayon is in fine condition as shown. The work is signed by the artist at the lower right corner.

This particular example features Bishop illustrating the debate on the efficacy of a 40 hr work week. The efforts of Congressman Howard Smith were thwarted and the workplace legislation which sided with the more liberal union interests prevailed due to the political influence of 'New Deal' factions in Congress.

We recently acquired 11 examples of work from this esteemed cartoonist whose work is held by collectors and institutions around the world including the Library of Congress.  These drawings are somewhat larger than work from other cartoonists of this era so they display quite well and are excellent conversation pieces in addition to curious works of art which will only continue to appreciate as this sort of cartoonist work is a thing of the past.                                                                                                                                                       _____________________________
