You’re looking at a new Ducati CAMSHAFT LOCKING TOOL for all 4V Desmoquattro Ducati's with 18 tooth cam wheels.  Models covered are all varients of: 851,  888, 748, 916 & 996, EXCEPT the 996R which has the later  Testastretta motor. For the 2002 748 fitted with ST4 heads,  the 2003 and later S4R and the 2001 and later S4 please use my ST4 tool. On Ducati Desmoquattro 4V engines there is always pressure on the cams and if the cam belts are removed without holding the cam wheels the correct valve timing will be lost. This tool has been designed to precisely fit between the 2 cam shafts and hold them in place allowing for easy replacement of the cam belts. The cam belts on Ducati's need to be replaced every 15,000 miles and unfortunately this simple routine maintenance task is often overlooked with catastrophic results. Don't let your engine end up like the one in the listing picture! Installation tips: First, lock the rear cylinder cams with this tool, then remove belt from the front cylinder followed by rear. Replace belt on rear cylinder followed by the front. Remove the cam lock tool and tension belts. Belt tension tools are expensive and not really necessary for this simple job.
