Karibu Harvest Loose Leaf Black Tea makes the best kombucha. I use a ratio of 2table spoon to a gallon.

Black tea scientifically called Camellia sinensis a type of tea which is stronger in flavor and more oxidized than oolong, green, and white teas.

The black tea is known to have aroma, taste and color. The tea has a distinct brownish color and what is described as a “brisk”, “full bodied” flavor. The Kenyan highlands reddish soil is rich in minerals which make it favorable for tea to grown and thrive in only certain parts of Kenya like the Mt Kenya region and The Great Rift Valley region.

Kenya tea is some of the best quality black tea in the world and Kenya is ranked 3rd in tea exporting worldwide. The tea is grown in small scale farms and the majority of the tea pickers are women, which helps to support their families. Black tea is processed from young, downy leaves, buds and stems, which are then fermented before being rolled and dried.

The dried leave go through a processing known as cut, twist and curl (CTC) process, where all the leaves, buds and stems are crushed/ground to equal sizes, mostly dust and fannings, yielding stronger, thicker and brighter teas and ensuring a higher number of cups of tea per unit measure.
