I've been advised by a helpful ebayer this is actually a Ross No.1 binocular microscope: c. 1870 (originally listed as a ross no.2).
WENHAMS Binocular arrangement.
A lovely LARGE Microscope in need of restoration/repair.

The impressive microscope stands on a heavy solid brass 'Y' shaped foot with a large vertical plates supporting the massive body.
At the bottom are the plane and concave mirrors on a jointed arm.
Above a mechanical substage with X-Y adustment
Two eye pieces, coarse and fine adjustments for focusing.
Mechanical stage with rotating movement sits above a sub stage also with mechanical X-Y adjustments and mechanical Iris
Microscope signed: ROSS, LONDON to base.
Tube signed: WENHAMS BINOCULAR, by ROSS LONDON.
4 Objectives:
1/4 inch objective Ross London and outer brass case. marked 1/4 inch Ross London
1/7 inch objective and outer brass case (no maker)
1 inch objective Ross London and outer brass Ross case (marked 2In).
unknown objective with no marking and end cap.

This item is in need of restoration / repair:
• All pieces worn.
• Its wooden box /carry case is missing.
• Binocular Prism is missing consequently works as a monocular microscope only.
• Mechanically everything adjusts throughout and knobs turn with a good feel to them.
• Eyepiece Rack and pinion working.
• Main Rack and pinion on body working.
• Plain Mirror ok with marks mostly at edge
• Concave mirror ok with marks mostly at edge.
• Lens need cleaning.
• Original Lacquer is now in worn condition.
• Brass adjustment knob, lacquer now with bluish/green corrosion to surface on both sides .
• Live box missing top glass.
• 4 objectives tested and working, 1 with minor chips to glass but does not show.
